Abstract of disbursements and expenditures made by George Vashon, Indian Agent for the Cherokees west of the Mississippi, under the stipulations of the Treaty with said tribe of 6th May, 1828, between the 16th September, 1830, and the 31st December, 1833.

The $47,251.75 1 of the $50,000 granted by the 5th article of the treaty of 6th May, 1828, to the Cherokees as an inducement for their emigration west of the Mississippi, has been paid by George Vashon, between the 16th Sept. 1830 and the 31st Decr. 1833, to sundry individuals, by drafts drawn on the Department of War.
- The total amount of expenditures as listed by the official record published by Congress actually allocated 50 cents greater then the amount actually spent, $47,251.75 reported in comparison to the actual $47,251.25.[↩]
Born an illegitimate child in 1958 to Florence Willy Clark Bakersfield CA. My biological father is unknown to this day. He and my mom were classmates at Arvin High School located about 10 miles south east of Bakersfield. Completely unaware of my fathers ethnisity until a recent dna test my daughter had. She had had enough of my ignorance toward my biological fathers ethnic back round and took measures to find out on her own. According to her results…kinda looks like my biodad was probably 100 percent…or somewhat close to 100 percent Cherokee Indian. Gauging by my daughters dna results…I am 72 percent Cherokee Indian. At the age of 58 I became aware of my lineage. The reason for my father less infancy is know and private due to it involving certain people who would be tramatised and possibly have their world turned upside down. So it is important to not advertise any identifying features on my biodads life. I lived in the same town for 56 years…no attempts to meet were made by either my biodad or myself. With this said…my question to you is “how can I go about finding more about my distant Cherokee relatives and get myself listed as part of tribe in which I have come from?”.
