The two volumes of the Memoirs of the Lower Ohio Valley were published by the Federal Publishing Company in Madision, Wisconsin, in 1905. Assembled by a variety of employed writers who would have traversed the towns and cities of the lower Ohio Valley as both biographers and salesmen. This is volume 2 of the set.
The compilers of the biographies used the equivalent of standardized questionnaires to interview subjects. As a result, the biographical sketches in this history follow a similar format: subject’s name, occupation, place of residence, date and place of birth, education, date of entry into the county, war experience, number of acres owned, date (or dates) of marriage and name of wife (or wives), names of children, and political, social, and religious affiliations. Similar information is often also provided for the subject’s father, grandfather, and even great-grandfather
It was common practice with these types of biographical collections, to include a photograph with the bigraphical sketch if the patron would pay for the addition and supply the photograph. This was done in this volume. Most biographies have small photographs accompanying the sketch itself. Many of the names in the sketches are not fully included, but abbreviated. See our index below for a complete name of the individual biographies found in volume 2.
