1832 Cherokee Muster Roll

This is part of a series of muster rolls we place under the Cherokee Emigration Rolls period of the Cherokee westward migration. This specific muster roll is part of an ongoing enrollment of those Eastern Cherokee who, under increasing pressure (especially after the 1830 Indian Removal Act), decided to emigrate before forced removal. $32.50 was paid by draft for each Indian. The payment occurred on either April or May 1832.

This muster roll and the 1838 Cherokee Muster Roll #3 have many of the same names. This 1832 list is for this group’s westward movement from the Eastern States of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, to the area that now encompasses the State of Arkansas. The 1838 list is for those that left the area of Arkansas they had recently settled in, and arrived in the area that now encompasses the State of Oklahoma.
