Baker City, Baker County, Oregon Alma Theresa Bacon, 92, a longtime Baker City resident, died Sept. 19, 2005, at a foster care home in Baker City. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Jack Bynum of the United Methodist Church will officiate. Vault interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Union, Union County, Oregon Body Found. The body of A. Bacon, who was supposed to have been murdered by Sam Walters a few weeks ago, has been found on the bank of Snake river several mailes below the ferry by some men hunting for stock. The body was much disfigured by birds, but the glass eye which Bacon was known to wear was found near the head. This completes a chain of evidence which leaves no doubt as to Walters guilt. Forest Grove, Oregon, July 19. (Special) – Wort Bacon, aged 45 years, died suddenly at this home near Greenville last night. He leaves a wife and child. He had been in Forest Grove yesterday afternoon arranging with John Beal, a real estate agent here, to take charge of his office, and departed for his home about 4 o’clock, and at 11 o’clock he was dead. He had resided in Portland and in Washington County the past 15 years. Interment will be in the Wilkes Cemetery Tuesday. Richard Dexter Genealogy, 1642-1904

Being a history of the descendants of Richard Dexter of Malden, Massachusetts, from the notes of John Haven Dexter and original researches. Richard Dexter, who was admitted an inhabitant of Boston (New England), Feb. 28, 1642, came from within ten miles of the town of Slane, Co. Meath, Ireland, and belonged to a branch of that family of Dexter who were descendants of Richard de Excester, the Lord Justice of Ireland. He, with his wife Bridget, and three or more children, fled to England from the great Irish Massacre of the Protestants which commenced Oct. 27, 1641. When Richard Dexter and family left England and by what vessel, we are unable to state, but he could not have remained there long, as we know he was living at Boston prior to Feb. 28, 1642.

His ancestors served in the Mexican and Civil Wars.

V. N. Bacon came to Elmore from Williamstown, Vt., in 1850, and located upon “Mt. Lookout farm,” on the west side of Elmore pond, in 1850, where he resided until his death, in 1874. His son, Oliver D., now resides on the farm, where, in 1878, he established Camp Bacon, a resort for campers and picnickers. This is a beautiful location for boating and fishing, is supplied with boats, a camp-house 15×25 feet, and all the accessories of a resort of this kind, and is well patronized each season.
