To Whom It May Concern:
I was elated to find my great-grandparents who were married in Pulaski County, Georgia in 1898. On their Marriage Certificate, R. VanDeventer, M. G. signed the certificate. What does the post-nominal initials M. G. stands for?
I would appreciate your help.
Sincerely,
Sally
Hi Sally, M. G. stands for Minister of the Gospel.
Dennis
I have a copy of the Marriage Certificate for:
Lister, Aaron, to Rebecca Rawlins, Oct. 17, 1871. By L. T. Thompson, J. P.
The marriage took place in 1861, not 1871:
I know the record you are transcribing from records this marriage as being Oct 17, 1871,
but I have a photograph of the original Marriage Certificate record from Pulaski Co,
which clearly records it as “1861” and it is in fact on a page in the original County record book.
The page photographed shows 4 marriages that took place in 1861, but
all 4 entries on the page were entered by hand in 1863 into this Pulaski Co book that contains 1863 recordings.
Clearly it’s impossible for the marriage date to be 1871 since it is hand recorded in an official county record book of 1863.
Therefore the marriage took place Oct 17, 1861.
