Schmidt, Thomas Philip; attorney-at-law; born, Cleveland, Oct. 8, 1875; son of Gustav and Elizabeth Asmus Schmidt; educated, Cleveland public schools, grade grammar high schools, University of Michigan, law and literary departments, 1895-1898; married, Cleveland, Oct. 10, 1906, Ami Mueller; issue, one son; sec’y and treas. The Cleveland Underground Rapid Transit R. R. Co.; sec’y, treas. and director Subway Realty Co.; director Eastland Steamship co., and Cleveland Railway Co.; Democrat; member Ohio Senate 1905-1908; nominated for Lieut. Gov. of Ohio, 1908, but declined; since 1903 has attended every state and national convention; chairman of the Cuyahoga County delegation to the Ohio state convention in 1902-1904; served as member of advisory, finance and executive committees of Democratic Central Committee, and delegate from the 20th district to the National Democratic Convention, in Denver, in 1908; close friend and loyal supporter of the late Tom L. Johnson; one of the chief promoters of the Forest City R. R. Co.; at one time mgr. of the Stock Exchange of the Municipal Traction Co.; connected with many civic, industrial and financial institutions of Cleveland. Recreations: Athletics and Gardening.
