Charles E. Turnbow Succumbs at Joseph
Charles E. Turnbow passed away yesterday, Dec. 29, 1937, in Joseph. He had been in very poor health for years, although his age was only 62 years, five months and 17 days.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Christian Church at Joseph and burial will be in Prairie Creek cemetery.
Mr. Turnbow was born in Cove July 12, 1875 and came to the upper Wallowa valley as a young man. He was married to Guylla Kutch in 1898 and they separated later and she passed away in March, 1937. Three children survive this union, John Turnbow, Mrs. Nellie Neiman of Joseph and Mrs. Daisy Marti of Cambridge, Idaho, and there are 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Turnbow was married a second time to Cora Roark and they lived in Colorado several years and she died in that state about four years ago. Mr. Turnbow was married again, to Mary Bowen, in August, 1936, in Colorado, and she survives him. He also left ten brothers and sisters: William of Elgin, Rue of Walla Walla, Roe, Frank, Jess and Delbert of La Grande, Sam of Klamath falls, Mrs. Ella McMillan and Mrs. Nancy Drumsmith and Mrs. Elizabeth Shuey of La Grande.
Mr. Turnbow lived in Enterprise a time and had a livery stable. Then he lived on Prairie Creek, and later moved into Joseph, and left many friends in the valley.
