Robert Rollin “Rob” Shaw, 53, of Sequim, Wash., died Feb. 20, 2008.
According to his wishes, his body was cremated. There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2625 Hughes Lane. A second service is scheduled at 3 p.m. March 8 in the LDS chapel, 825 Washington St., at Sequim.
Rob was born on April 19, 1954, at the naval hospital in Oak Harbor, Wash. The oldest of seven siblings, he was the consummate big brother. Love of country, family, and friends were mainstays of his life, his family said.
Passionate about his country and heritage, he joined the military toward the end of the Vietnam War. He served his time in Germany as a truckdriver before being honorably discharged.
Rob worked on pipelines and drilling machines in the oil exploration and recovery industry for more than 10 years. He completed schooling as a certified Harley-Davidson motorcycle mechanic and worked at that occupation for several years in Utah.
In the mid 1980s he returned home to Sequim, Wash., where his father and grandfather were born and raised. He labored in the wood cabinetmaking industry until his untimely death.
Rob was actively involved in AA and hoped to encourage as many people as he could to improve their lives. He was a conservative and a constitutionalist and was adamant in his belief in individual rights, self-government to its greatest extent, and commitment to civic duty and responsibility.
Survivors include two sons, Jacob Rollin Shaw of Utah, and Jessie Lloyd Shaw of Sequim, Wash.; his mother, Loretta C. Shaw of Baker City; brothers, David G. Shaw of Haines, Stevan H. Shaw of Nibley, Utah, and Clark H. Shaw of Riverton, Utah; sisters, Susan L. Ternyey of Vancouver, Wash., Sally A. Jackson of Blaine, Wash., and Veda M. Walker of Halfway; and many treasured friends from the various places he lived.
