This survey of Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Mississippi, was completed in 1956 by Mr. Gordon M. Wells and published by Joyce Bridges the same year. It contains the cemetery readings Mr. Wells was able to obtain at that date. It is highly likely that not all of the gravestones had survived up to that point, and it is even more likely that a large portion of interred individuals never had a gravestone.

About the middle of the seventeenth century four brothers of the Lewis family left Wales, viz.: Samuel, went to Portugal; nothing more is known of him; William, married a Miss McClelland, and died in Ireland, leaving only one son, Andrew; General Robert, died in Gloucester county, Va. ; and John, died in Hanover county, Va. It is Andrews descendants who are featured in the manuscript.

The Lincoln County New Mexico online archives contains pdf’s of all remaining copies of the El Farol Newspaper of Capitan NM, but doesn’t have an index to the newspaper. C. W. Barnum, an active member of AHGP, and state coordinator for the New Mexico AHGP recently invested his time and energy into providing an every person index to the various extant issues. Samuel W. Taliaferro, born on April 15, 1843, in Guthrie Precinct, is the fifth child of Samuel W. and Sallie (Moore) Taliaferro. His father, who arrived in Todd County from Virginia, became a successful farmer and honest businessman. Samuel W. married Alice Millen in 1870, and they had two children. After Alice’s death, he operated the family farm and bred Jersey cattle and Poland China pigs, significantly increasing his agricultural value. He currently manages 450 acres of land and supports his mother’s farm.
