Hans Finstad, 95, of 2251 Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, November 22 at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital. services for Mr. Finstad were conducted Saturday, November 26 at 10:00 a.m. at gray’s west & Co. Pioneer Chapel.
Reverend R. Peter Anderson of the First Lutheran Church officiated. Concluding services were held in the Chapel with private internment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Finstad was born on Feb. 15, 1888 in Romedal, Norway, to Lemik and Audrea Kristoferson. He came to the USA at the age of 18 to Wisconsin. After a short time he moved to Wallowa County, Oregon, then to Baker in 1930. He married Ellen Lewis, who preceded him in death in 1937. On Feb.3 1940 he married Clara Wood in Weiser, Idaho. He worked for the Oregon Lumber Company until his retirement. He was a veteran of WW1, member of the First Lutheran Church of Baker for over 40 years, and a member of Barracks no. 78.
He is survived by his wife, Clara, of Baker; three stepchildren, Lavonne Burgess of Port Lavaca, Texas; LeLand Wood of Vancouver, Washington, LaVelle Calder of Baker; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews in Norway.
