Malm, L. Louis; vice consul for Sweden; born in Umea, Sweden, Dec. 15, 1850; son of John August and Augusta Sophia Wahlin Malm; educated in Government schools and College of Umea; married, Dec. 15, 1874, Miss Wilhelmina Peterson; issue, seven children; went to sea as an apprenticed seaman; promoted to 2nd mate; spent four years at sea; on returning to Sweden, engaged in ship chandlery for one year; in 1872, came to the U. S.; located in Pennsylvania, with Titiusville Gas & Water Co.; in 1874, became supt. and remained in that position till 1884, when elected treas. Danvers, Mass., Gas & Electric Light Co.; in 1889, appointed supt. of construction of the Cleveland Arcade Co.; still retain official connection with the company; in 1895, appointed vice consul for Sweden and Norway; when countries were divided retained Swedish consulate; director Augustana College and Theological Seminary, at Rock Island, Ill.; director Gustavus Adolphus Orphanage, at Jamestown, N. Y.; member Swedish-American Historical Society, Swedish and Cleveland Chambers of Commerce; member Swedish-Lutheran Church; Republican; Royal Arch Mason; member Scandinavian Brotherhood of America, member Cleveland Yacht Club. Favorite recreation: Yachting.
