Bowman, Evelyn Mae McAllister – Obituary

Evelyn Mae Bowman of 515 SE Byers Ave. died at St. Anthony Hospital Wednesday [June 6, 1973], one day after the death of her husband, former Pendleton Mayor Hugh Bowman. Mrs. Bowman was 73. She was born April 30, 1900, at Longmont, Colo. She had lived in Pendleton 50 years. Survivors are a niece, Mrs. Chet Kirkman, San Francisco; a grandniece, Mrs. Mark Eckenrode, Los Angeles; and several other nieces and grandnieces and nephews in California. Biography of Jacob Frazier

This pioneer of the wool business in Eastern Oregon, and owner of some of the best buildings in Pendleton, is a native of the Buckeye state (1820), and while but a boy of ten went with his father to Indiana, and as a youth of sixteen to Iowa. In this state, then known locally as the Black Hawk purchase, his father died at the advanced age of eighty-three. Washington Co., OR A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 1996, in Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario for Areta Gurney, who died Jan. 6 at age 93. Mrs. Gurney was born Oct. 13, 1902 in Pendleton. She taught high school in Marshfield in the 1920s and grade school during the 1960s. In 1976 she moved from Ontario to Portland. She was a member of the Ontario Methodist Church. Surviving are her son, Norris of Portland and one grandchild. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. La Grande, Oregon Terry Helman, 62, of La Grande, died May 30, 2003, at his home. A celebration of life service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the La Grande Eagles Lodge. Mr. Helman was born on Sept. 19, 1940, at La Grande to Virgil and Cleo Campbell Helman. He was a 1958 La Grande High School graduate.
