Albert Britton Smith, 90, of Pendleton, a former Baker City resident and Safeway manager, died Feb. 2, 2001, at Willowbrook Terrace in Pendleton. His graveside funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born on July 7, 1910, at Durango, Colo., to William Albert and Jessie Farrell Smith. He married Marguerite L. Elgin, Union County, Oregon Killed in Auto Wreck Mrs. Grace Irene Hawkins, well-known former resident of Elgin, was fatally injured Friday last when a car driven by her daughter, La Vena Hawkins, 18 years old, left the highway near Pendleton, throwing Mrs. Hawkins out and fracturing her skull. Bowman, Kenneth Earl – Obituary

Funeral for Kenneth Earl Bowman will begin 10 a.m. Saturday at the Folsom-Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton, followed by vault burial at Olney Cemetery. Bowman, 81, died Tuesday [June 22, 1982] at St. Anthony Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Pendleton. He was born Feb. 20, 1901, at Pendleton, the son of O. Purl and Eva (Stickler) Bowman. I. Delbert Dern, 74, of Lynnwood, Wash., died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, following a brief five month battle with cancer. Private interment was held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Seattle, and a family celebration was held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Lynnwood. The celebration was well attending and a fitting goodbye, with cousins from Baker City, Arlene Fulton and Delores Kissire present. CAPT. WILLIAM MARTIN. – Captain Martin, of the first real immigration, that of 1843, is still living in a hale age at Pendleton, Oregon. He was born in West Virginia in 1822, and came west to Missouri in 1841. In 1843 he joined a company coming to Oregon, being intimately associated with Daniel Waldo. Reaching Oregon after the vicissitudes of that eventful march, he took up a claim at Howell’s Prairie, working for Waldo at ten dollars per month, although wages were sixty dollars.
