Hess, Virginia “Ginger” N. Mrs. – Obituary

Virginia “Ginger” N. Hess, 84, of Port Orchard, Wash., died in Port Orchard on May 14, 2006, due to natural causes.

Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, July 28, 2006, 9 a.m. at St. Francis desales Cathedral, Baker City, Ore., with graveside services immediately following at the Haines Cemetery, Haines, Ore.

Virginia’s family is having a luncheon for family and friends at the Haines United Methodist Church after the graveside services.

Virginia was born April 9, 1922, in Haines, Ore.

She married Larry Hess June 19, 1943, in Portland, Ore., He died in 1976.

She graduated from Muddy Creek High School in Haines, Ore., in 1940.

Virginia worked 45 years as a hair stylist in Portland, Ore., Tacoma,Wash., and Long Beach, Calif. She started her styling career at Meier and Frank, in Portland, Ore., when she and Larry moved to Washington when Larry was drafted and served at Ft. Lewis, Wash. She worked at Fischer’s in downtown Tacoma. In California, she owned her own salon.

Foremost, Virginia enjoyed being with friends and family. While living in California, she loved to golf and had made her “hole in one.” She was a great cook and homemaker. Later years, she became an avid reader, enjoyed playing Bingo and cards and always loved to dance.

Virginia had a large family — eight brothers, one sister, all of which had passed away before her including six nephews and one niece. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hess in 1976.

She is survived by sons, Ron (Michelle) Hess of Long Beach, Calif., Gary (Toni) Hess, of Annapolis, Md; daughter, Sandy (Boyd) Taylor of Port Orchard, Wash.; five grandchildren: Carie Cassar (John), Kevin Hess (Lori), Liz Reale (Brian), Tracy Nicholson (Greg), Kelly Hess (Ernie); eight great-grandchildren: Kelly Hess, Wyatt Hess, Shelby Hess, Olivia Cassar, Ella Cassar, Curtis Reale, Donovan Reale, Tyler Nicholson.
