New Hampshire Men of Progress contains 289 biographical sketches and portraits of leaders in business and professional life in and of the state of New Hampshire. It was edited by the staff of the Manchester Union under the supervision of Richard Herndon.
Abstracts of over 600 wills for Vanderburgh County, Indiana, extracted by Mrs. Arthur C. Bitterman. Book A was typed by Mrs. James A. Gentry, book B typed by Mrs. Marvin J. Huff, and published as one by the Vanderburgh Chapter of the DAR. Book A primarily covers wills written or filed within the time period of 1823-1849 and book B includes the years of 1849-1873. In both cases there are wills that fall outside those dates.
The wills in this book come from Book A of the Wills found at the Logan County Court house in Russellville, Kentucky. The information was extracted in 1957 by Mrs. Vick on behalf of the DAR located in Russellville. The text in this book was done with an old manual typewriter and has the usual faint and filled-in type often found with such papers. On top of the difficulty in interpreting the print from the typewriter, the scanning process was also deficient, and led to the creation of a faint digital copy exacerbating the difficult to read text.

The genealogy begins with Robert Steel, who, with his wife and family, emigrated from Scotland to Canada. This manuscript is unsourced, and large portions may come from the personal knowledge of it’s author, especially those contemporaneous with it’s publication.
The 1st Mississippi Light Artillery, also known as Withers’ Light Artillery, comprised several companies raised across Mississippi, participating in key battles during the Civil War. Initially assembled in May 1862, the regiment played a crucial role in the defense of Vicksburg against Union forces, with notable contributions at Chickasaw Bayou and the Vicksburg campaign. Throughout its service, the artillery faced significant casualties and challenges, ultimately surrendering at Vicksburg in July 1863. Afterward, surviving members regrouped as infantry before continuing their service in various capacities.

Joseph Cameron Lockhart, born in Pennsylvania in 1838, is a veteran Union soldier who has thrived in Kansas for over forty-five years. He served in the Seventh Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War, participating in numerous battles. Lockhart transitioned to a successful farming career, amassing 12,000 acres across several counties. He has been married twice, with four children from his first wife, Sarah Woodruff, and currently resides in Eskridge with his second wife, Kate M. Reed, engaging in local community activities.
Louise Lockhart, 81, of Summerville, passed away on September 13 at Grande Ronde Hospital. Born on April 26, 1925, in Bellingham, Washington, she attended Pepperdine College and married Ray Lockhart in 1946. Louise worked as a purchasing agent at Eastern Oregon University and participated actively in church and community, including the Grande Ronde Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, daughter Christine Gabbert, sister Marjorie Bush, and one grandchild. A celebration of life will be arranged by Loveland Funeral Chapel.
Sergt. J. L. Lockhart, born in Durham County to L. Y. Lockhart and his wife, enlisted in the military on April 25, 1918. He trained at multiple camps, including Camp Jackson and Camp Sevier, before being assigned to Camp Gordon, Georgia. Promoted to sergeant on September 10, 1918, he was attending the Officers Training School when the armistice was declared. Lockhart was mustered out of service on December 7, 1918.
