Norman Eugene “Gene” Case, 64, of Baker City, died May 11, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services. His memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Baker City Christian Church, 2998 Eighth St. Pastor Roger Scovil will officiate. Visitations will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. There will be a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Several persons bearing the name Jennings (variously spelled) located in Massachusetts in its early settlement. Richard Jennings put himself as apprentice to Robert Bartlett, of Plymouth, in 1635, for a period of years. He is said to have lived at Sandwich, whence he moved to Bridgewater, and had a family of children. The Jennings family was long prominent and highly respected in the town of Sandwich, but in time became practically extinct there. Thomas Jennings was an early settler in Portsmouth, R. I. It is, however, the purpose to refer here to the special Fall River family of the name the head of which was the late William H. Jennings. The latter was a descendant in the seventh generation from John Jennings of Sandwich, Mass., from whom his descent is through Isaac, John, Isaac, Isaac and Andrew M. Jennings. These generations follow in the order named.

History of Minneapolis and Hennepin County, Minnesota

The aim of this history was to present in a permanent form the key incidents in the history of Minneapolis, from its earliest settlement to its publication in 1895. The primary facts and events recounted were mostly obtained from living witnesses and participants. It was rare for a city with more than two hundred thousand inhabitants to have so many of its first settlers still alive. The city’s growth had been so extraordinary and unprecedented that many of its earliest settlers remained. Some information was also gleaned from the notes left by now-deceased writers who witnessed the events described. Great care was taken to verify the accuracy of all facts and incidents mentioned. While it might have been too much to hope that the work was entirely free from errors, it was confidently believed that any such errors were few and insignificant.

Sailed for France June 10, 1918. Fought at Argonne. Was chief of staff of 1st Army. Served with 56th Reg., C. A. C., six weeks. Was in N.C. N. G. 10 years. Returned to USA Jan. 24, 1919. Mustered out at Ft. Toten Feb. 4, 1919.

Biographical Sketch of G. H. Case

G. H. Case is a native of Ohio, and is a lawyer by profession. In 1861 he enlisted in the Union army, in Company E, Second Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Held the office of Recorder of Deeds, also Clerk of the District Court, in Jefferson County, Iowa; was elected to the Kansas State Senate in 1880. The banking house of Case, Bishop & Co. was organized in 1877.
