Spence, H. Meredith – Obituary

Haines, Baker County, Oregon

H. Meredith Spence, 81 passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, after an exhausting illness. He will be greatly missed by his large and loving family and many friends.

He was born in Haines, Ore., on Dec. 20, 1924, to Fred and Melvina Spence. He married his high school sweetheart Mary Jane Warner in 1954. Meredith attended Baker, Ore. High School, and served in the US Navy during World War II.

Meredith worked for Powder River Livestock Equipment Company for almost 50 years before retiring at the age of 76. He loved the company and his work. He was an avid golfer, gardener and outdoor sportsman. He was also a very accomplished photographer. His greatest joy was his family, friends and the many activities they enjoyed together.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Jane; children Greg (DeeAnn), Tim (Cindy), Loy Holt (Mark), Roger (Megan), Brad (Anita), Rob (Audrey), Kurt (Marie), David (Sherry); thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and his grandson Christopher.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 E. Center Street, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the mortuary Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Utah Alzheimer’s Association in hopes that we can find a cure for this agonizing disease. A special thanks to the staff at Garden Terrace of Salt Lake City for their years of dedicated service and loving care of our father.
