Molstrom, Grace Herr – Obituary

Grace E. Molstrom, 88, of Milton-Freewater, died Friday, October 15, 1999, at her home. The funeral will be held at the First Christian Church in Milton-Freewater, on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Private vault interment will be at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton on Friday morning.

Mrs. Molstrom was born July 13, 1911, at Milton-Freewater to Herbert and Nellie Herr. She and her two sisters Ruby and Stella, grew up on the family farm along the old Walla Walla Highway. She was a graduate of Ferndale School, McLoughlin High School and Eastern Oregon College.

In 1936 she married Eldon Molstrom at Walla Walla. Mr. Molstrom was postmaster of the Adams Post Office and active in the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He died in September 1952.

“Gracie,” as she was known, spent 53 years in the classroom, beginning in 1932. Her first school was a small, one-room school called Union School near Pendleton.

She took time off from teaching to begin her family and last June, when she finished her career, she had been employed in the Milton-Freewater School District for 47 years. She took great pride and received much joy from her many years of working with children. She was a member of the First Christian Church, National Education Association and Oregon Education Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Fellows, of Milton-Freewater; a son, John Molstrom of North Plains; a sister, Stella Richardson of Milton-Freewater, and three grandsons. Her sister, Ruby Simms, also preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grove School Library through Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
