Vernon Z. “Vern” Jacobson, 85, a retired Baker City manager, died Nov. 18, 2004, at Baker City.
His memorial service was Saturday at Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Pastor Susan Barnes of the First Presbyterian Church officiated.
A graveside inurnment will be in the spring at the Prairie City Cemetery.
Vern was born on June 16, 1919, at Alder, Wash., to Arnt and Elizabeth Jacobson. He spent his young life in Washington before serving in the U.S. Army as a captain in the 2nd Armored Division during World War II.
Vern graduated from the University of Washington at Seattle with degrees in engineering and mineralogy. He spent his professional life as a mining and civil engineer. He was employed by the City of Baker City as city engineer and city manager until his retirement.
The family expressed appreciation to Pat and Roy Valentine for their kindness and care of Vern this past year.
Survivors include his son, Gary Jacobson of Tulelake, Calif.; daughters and their spouses, Pat and John Baglien of Weiser, Idaho, and Carol and Steven Tanaka of Seattle; sister, Norma Norris of Kingston, Wash.; and his pride and joys, grandchildren Nicole Rodman Bourland, Logan Jacobson, Jacob Baglien, Rebecca Baglien, Krysta Baglien, Kelsey Tanaka, and Lindsey Tanaka; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Bourland and Tara Bourland.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lela Anne French Jacobson; his brother, Jay Jacobson; and daughter-in-law, Carol Jacobson.
