Hughes, Canler Faye “Ken” – Obituary

Baker City, Oregon

Canler Faye “Ken” Hughes, 63, of Baker City, died Feb. 1, 2007, at Meadowbrook Place after a short battle with lung cancer.

His graveside funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pastor Monte Loyd of the Harvest Church will officiate.

Ken was born April 18, 1943, to Columbus and Mary Hughes of Helena, Ark., where he spent his childhood hunting and fishing along the Mississippi. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1963, where he proudly served his country for 12 years, including three tours in Vietnam.

During his military travels he married Linda Ann Warren of Castle Rock, Wash., in December 1964. The couple had two sons, Thomas Edward and Robert Allen.

After his military career, the family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he worked as an auto mechanic with his two brothers, Herman and Junior. After four years in San Antonio, the family moved to Baker City in 1978 to prospect for gold with Ken’s father-in-law, Everett Warren. While in Baker City, Ken worked as an auto mechanic at Poe Motors and later with Hunt Ranches of Keating.

He and Linda decided to part ways, so he moved back to San Antonio, where he worked as a hunting guide for Texas Trophy Hunters Association, hunting whitetailed deer and hogs. During the offseason he worked for an agricultural chemical company. Several years later Ken found his way back to Baker City to be closer to his two sons. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and working on cars.

Ken is survived by his sons and their wives, Bob and Jackie Hughes and Tom and Kim Hughes, and his five grandchildren, Logan, Amber, Brandon, Ashley and Rebekka, all of Baker City; his brothers, Raymond Hughes and Junior Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Herman; and sisters, Irene and Addie Marie.
