Man Killed When Car Goes In Ditch
G.W. Hansell, of La Grande, was killed instantly when a touring car he was driving left the Oregon Trail a mile north of Haines early Saturday morning and turned over in a ditch. Hansell was driving alone and authorities who investigated believe he fell asleep at the wheel.
Hansell had been employed as a salesman by a Baker automobile agency for the past few weeks. Widow and two children at La Grande survive. The body will be sent to La Grande this afternoon.
Glenn W. Hansell had made his home in La Grande four about six or eight years, during which time he was employed as signal man for the O.W.R. and N. company here up until February of this year. Since then he has been working at Baker selling Chevrolet cars.
The accident occurred near Haines while he was en route to Baker from La Grande at about 1 o’clock Saturday morning, according to word received here. His car went into the ditch and overturned. Instant death was caused by a broken neck.
He is said to have been about 45 years of age. Besides his widow he leaves two daughters. Lois about 15 and Wilma about 12 years of age.
