Frances Leslie O’Keefe Hammond, 84, died Feb. 6, 2007 at her home in Baker City.
The family welcomes all friends who would like to share their memories of Frances to join them in a casual celebration of life service to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Elks Lodge in Baker City.
Frances’ warm smile will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Frances was born May 7, 1922, in Bovill, Idaho, to Francis and Georgie O’Keefe. She grew up and attended school in Bovill, graduating from high school there in 1940.
Frances worked at the Match Block Factory in Bovill. She and her sister Shirley moved to Seattle and worked at Boeing Aircraft during the war.
Frances married Garold Hammond March 2, 1946. in Seattle. They lived in Pullman, Wash., and Genesee, Idaho, before moving to Baker City, where they have resided for the past 55 years.
“Franny” enjoyed watching basketball, especially the Portland Trail Blazers, and football games.
Her children and grandchildren were her life and joy. Franny loved attending family functions, such as the annual Bovill Picnic and pitching horseshoes or playing cards at the “Hammond Hideout” on Eagle Creek.
Frances is survived by her husband, Garold Hammond; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dean Heffner of Pendleton; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Debbie Hammond of Bend; six grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Colleen Grigg of Baker City, Tricia and Rick Martinez of Pendleton, Jodi and Greg Connor of Asotin, Wash., Jason and Dawn Heffner of Moses Lake, Wash., Scott Hammond of Bend and Katelyn Hammond of Bend; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Kathryn Hughes of Lewiston, Idaho; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Denevan of Lewiston, Idaho; sister, Patricia Fink of Juneau, Alaska; sister and brother-in-law June and Harley Rouleau of Spokane, Wash.; numerous nieces, nephews and family friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister and two brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pathway Hospice or to the charity of one’s choice in Frances’ honor in care of Gray’s West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., Baker City, OR 97814.
