Edward Isaiah “Ed” Hall, 80, was born Sept. 4, 1925, at Haines, Ore., to James Otho and Mabel Mae (York) Hall. He died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005 at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash.
Ed was raised in Baker and attended Baker schools. On Feb 9, 1945 he married Violet Irene Music at Baker, Ore. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II where he was wounded in Okinawa earning the Purple Heart. He finished his tour of duty in the Military Police in Hawaii. After the service he returned to Haines and worked for a lumber mill. He then started to work at the Umatilla Army Depot as a Munitions Destroyer in 1961. The family moved to Hermiston in 1962 and Ed worked there until he retired in 1974. He worked at a carwash with his son, then drove school bus and finally worked for the Hermiston School District. Ed was Past President and a founding member of the Eastern Oregon Museum in Haines. He was actively involved for a long time in the Hermiston V.F.W. Desert Post #4750 Honor Guard, the Boy Scouts, Hermiston Little League Baseball, and with his wife, Violet, put up the Red Cross Flags for Blood Drawings.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Violet Hall of Hermiston, Ore.; children, Martie and her husband, Sam Lamont of Fairbanks, Alaska, Edward I. Hall Jr. Of Hermiston, Ore., Timothy and his wife, Sandra Kortum-Hall of Seattle, Wash., Bruce and his wife, Karin Hall of Richland, Wash., Dale Hall of Corvallis, Ore., and Kathy and her husband, Ken Dopps of Hermiston, Ore.; three sisters, Millie Hickerson of Yamhill, Ore., Irene Martin of Boise, Idaho, and Lorene Spreit of Huntington, Ore.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, James and Mabel Hall; two brothers, Glen and Donald Hall; two sisters, Ada and Dorothy.
Memorial Services were held Saturday, Nov 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Inurnment with Military Honors followed at the Hermiston Cemetery.
