Services Tuesday for Elsie Jane Wood Griffith
Funeral services for Elsie Jane Wood Griffith 73, a long time resident of Halfway, Oregon, were conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at the Beatty Chapel.
Elmo Griffith of Klamath Falls, Oregon, officiated with internment following in the family plot at Mt. Hope Cemetery, at Baker City, Oregon.
Mrs. Griffith passed away on Saturday, May 2, 1970 in St.Elizabeth Hospital, after a prolonged illness.
Mrs. Griffith was born on July 8, 1896 at Columbus, Nebraska, one of ten children born to George (Sedgewick) and (Nancy) Ellen (Bunney) Wood. She received her schooling in Nebraska, and moved to La Grande, Oregon, in 1915, and since that time has spent most of her lifetime in Oregon. She was united in Marriage to Freeman Griffith in Baker, Oregon, in May 1951.
She is survived by her husband, Freeman S. Griffith of Halfway, Oregon, two daughters; Helen Curley of Los Vegas, Nevada, and Ruth Christensen of Pendleton, Oregon; three sons, Deptner Ashley of Anchorage, Alaska, Norman Ashley of Centralia, Washington, and George Ashley of Seattle, Washington, 1 brother, John William Wood of Lewiston, Idaho, and by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 2 sisters, 1 sister being Mary Adelyn her twin sister:
She was a member of Jehovah Witnesses, and the Golden Rule lodge, Both of Baker, Oregon.
