Lawrence “Vern” Cathey, 75, of La Grande, died Nov. 27, 2004, at his home.
A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Life Center in La Grande (behind Shop ‘n Kart). Burial will be at the Summerville Cemetery. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
Vern was born on Sept. 26, 1929, to Hugh and Laura Ray Cathey at Spearfish, S.D. He moved to Baker City where he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was in the Signal Corps when he was discharged. He joined Labor Union No. 682 where he worked as a cement finisher in building and road construction. He laid pipe and was foreman at Wild Dish Construction and Salem Sand and Gravel. He married Maxine Kimball on Aug. 6, 1955.
Survivors include his mother, Laura Cathey of Ontario; his two sons and their spouses, Larry and Kathleen Cathey and Calvin and Kerry Cathey, all of La Grande; two sisters and their spouses, Verla and Bill Boles of Baker City and Sharon and Harley Derrick of Ontario, and five grandchildren.
