Enterprise, Oregon Clifford Henry Cochran, 94, of Tri-cities and formerly of La Grande died Feb. 25 at a care center. At his request there will be no funeral. Mr. Cochran was born Jan. 27, 1912, to Walter M. and Blanche Barnes Cochran in Enterprise. He graduated from La Grande High School where he played football and baseball. In 1934 he married Helen Conkey in Walla Walla. They lived in Klamath Falls and in La Grande, where he worked for the Mt. Emily Lumber Co. He retired after more than 40 years. Summerville, Wallowa County, Elisabeth Ochsner was born in Naenikon, Canton Zurich, Switzerland, February 27, 1840, and passed to the Great Beyound July 17, 1919, at the age of 79 years, 4 months, 20 days. She came to Lank County, Wisconsin, in 1851 with her parents. In 1859 she married Gottfried (Godfried) Waelty in Waumander, Wisconsin. They came to Summerville, Oregon in 1881 and then to Wallowa in 1902. Her husband passed on August 1, 1913. Four children were born to this union, two dying in Childhood. Another Herder Dead A sheep herder in Wallowa county, somewhere on the Looking Glass, made the ghastly find of another dead herder last Friday. He immediately phoned friends at Milton, who in turn informed the sheriff of Union county. Deputies were dispatched to the scene, but found the place across the line and in Wallowa county. When the Wallowa officers reached the scene the body of the dead man was found to be so badly decomposed as to make its removal next to impossible. John William Womack, son of Jacob and Lurreene Bougher Womack, was born in Unionville, Missouri, He, and a cousin Crawford Wallace Womack, made an early trip into Wallowa Valley, camping along Bear Creek. During the night their horses wandered away from camp and were found the next morning at what is now the town site of Wallowa. They both returned again in 1877, when they both filed on homesteads.
