C. W. (Crawford Wallace) Womack, who lives retired at Lostine, Oregon, is one of the pioneer settlers of Wallowa valley. He was born in Shelby County, Illinois, on October 4, 1844, the son of William and Martha A. (Jordan) Womack, both of whom were natives of Tennessee. The parents were married in Illinois, where they had removed in youth with their parent’s. After their marriage they resided for a short time in Shelby County and then removed to Lee County, Iowa, and later to Putnam County, Missouri. Promise, Wallowa County, Oregon Asa Orvel Doud passed away at Promise north of Wallowa on June 23, 1984. He was born December 19, 9116 at Alva, Oklahoma, son of William and Q.Z. Maxwell Doud. Asa was a farm laborer most of his life and never married. Survivors include four brothers, Vernie Doud of Oroville, Calif., Lester Doud of Wallowa, Lonnie Doud of Lostine, and Carl Doud of Oroville, Calif.

Death Of Boone Childers Boone Childers, the well known freighter between Elgin and Wallowa for 25 years, died Monday June 24, at Wallowa of heart disease. He was buried the following day at Lostine. Mr. Childers was born October 9, 1868, in Scotland county, Missouri, and came west when a young man. His wife, who was Miss Maude Herring [Hearing], and four children survive. Ray William Gowey of Joseph passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 1974 at Wallowa Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient eight days. He had been in failing health for the past six months. He was the son of Orlando and Margaret Gowey and was born at Flora on Feb. 27, 1901. He had lived most of his life at Flora and Troy, living for a time at Grass Valley, Calif.
