Enterprise, Oregon The passing of one of Wallowa’s pioneers occurred Tuesday morning July 9th, when Aunt Mary Wright died at her home in Enterprise after an illness of several months. She and her husband homesteaded on Alder slope among the very first settlers in the county. Had she lived until December would have 89 years. Three sons are living in this city: George, Layfayette and Tom Wright. One son, Henry Wright lives in Portland and a daughter, Mrs. H. A. Owenby at Oregon City. First Obituary Jeannie Marie Emmons of Wallowa died March 27, 2007, in Walla Walla, Wash. She was 47. Ms. Emmons was born Feb. 28, 1960. She lived most of her life in Wallowa. Hamilton, Ralph – Obituary

Tuesday morning the body of Ralph Hamilton arrived from a Florida Camp, he too, dieing from pneumonia following an attack of Spanish Influenza. Ralph left in June with a quota of Wallowa County boys for Benson Polytechnic School, Portland, for special training for the army. He was stationed in the Remount Depot near Jacksonville, Florida. Ruth Hammond departed this life while at the hospital at Lewiston, Idaho, January 30th, 1920, aged 18 years, 11 months and 2 days. Ruth was the daughter of Tim Gordon (deceased) and Eliza (Gordon) Backelman, a resident of Bartlett, where the daughter was born. She was married to T.B. Enterprise, Oregon Quincy Albert Arnold Quincy Albert Arnold Sr., 86, died Nov. 9, 2004, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital. He was born to Alvin and Cora Arnold in West Jefferson, N.C., in 1918. He married Ettie Virginia Arnold in 1939, who passed away in 1989. They lived in North Carolina before settling in Enterprise. He served in the Army in 1944, and was in construction as a carpenter until retirement. During retirement he loved building furniture, going to yard sales and getting wood for winter. Joseph, Wallowa County, Oregon Claud was the eldest child of Maud Ruthanar Burnap and Robert Lindford Cole. He was born at Prairie Creek, Oregon on August 24, 1888. Claud’s name sake was his paternal grandmother Catherine Lindford, 3rd wife of Rev. William Person Cole, AKA Wiley P. Cole Sr. His elementary schooling was started there and completed in Touchet, Washington, and in Lost Prairie, Oregon where he graduated from the eight grade. Mr. Swisher was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Paradise to William Harry Swisher and Martha Ann Gordon Swisher. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on May 8, 1942.
