Mrs. Nellie Clark Heart Victim Nellie Clark wife of G. C. Clark of Flora, passed away early Wednesday morning. She had been a resident of the Flora community for the past 50 years. Robert Berner, the first Wallowa county boy to die on the field of battle in France, was killed in action July 15, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Berner of Flora. The funeral service of W.L. McCubbin of near Joseph, formerly of Lostine, was held at the Lostine cemetery last Friday at noon, in charge of the I.O.O.F. of which he was a member. Mr. McCubbin had a severe attack of the Spanish influenza, which affected his mind, and he was taken to Pendleton for treatment, but he only lived four days. He died Wednesday morning, Nov. 13th. Wallowa, Oregon Roberta Johnson Bird died Aug. 5, 2006, at the Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla, Wash. She was 87. Mrs. Bird was born June 15, 1919, in Wallowa to William E. and Laura B. Johnson. She graduated with honors from Wallowa High School in 1936. She walked the five miles to Wallowa High School and returned daily unless some kind person gave her a ride.
