Arthur Abbot, Marblehead
Perhaps removed to Ipswich, joined Winthrop 1634, in the settlement of that town, was living in 1671, and probably died before 1679. We know of issue, only Philip, whose descendants have tradition that he came from Totness in County Devon, where he left good estate of which for several years after migration the income was enjoyed by him.
Arthur Abbot, Ipswich
Perhaps son of the preceding in 1671 made freeman then called Jr. and, in 1674, 35 years old; by wife Elizabeth who died 17 Feb. 1738, aged 90, had Elizabeth born 6 June 1686, and probably other children of whom only Moses (friend of Rev. Hull of Charlestown), and Arthur of Ipswich, and Susanna, are named with probably evidence. He died before his wife.
Benjamin Abbot, Andover
Son of the first George of the same, married 22 Apr. 1685, Sarah, eldest died of Ralph Farnum of the same, had Benjamin, b. 11 July 1686; Jonathan, Sept. 1687; David, 29 Jan. 1689; and Samuel, 19 May 1694; and died 30 Mar. 1703.
Daniel Abbot, Cambridge
Came, probably in the fleet with Winthrop 1630, requested admission as freeman 19 Oct. of that year and was record 18 May following. At the same Court was fined 5 shillings for refusal to watch & c. removed about 1639 to Providence, there died about 1650.
Daniel Abbot, Providence
Perhaps son of the preceding, took oath of allegiance 1668 to the King, did not remove during King Philip’s war, and may have been the town clerk there 1680.

Ebenezer Abbot, Andover
Youngest son of the first Thomas of the same, married Elizabeth Tucker, had Sarah, b. 7 June 1717; Elizabeth 6 May 1719; Ebenezer, 6 Sept. 1721; John, 28 Feb. 1723; Philip, 11 Sept. 1720; Thomas, 28 May 1728, died young; Sarah, again, 15 July 1730; Thomas, again, 22 Feb. 1733; Samuel, 16 June 1736; and Benjamin, 26 Jan. 1738. His wife died Apr. 1743, and he married Mary Ingalls.
Edward Abbot, Taunton
1643. In 1643, the males in Taunton between sixteen and sixty were subject to military duty. Of the fifty-four names included one transcribed as Edward Abbott. 1
George Abbot, Rowley
Brought from England son George, Nehemiah, and Thomas, and died 1647.
George Abbot, Windsor
1640, fined for selling to an Indian a pistol, and powder; probably was after at Norwalk among early settlers 1655, had there two wives of which the latter was Joanna, and he outlived her 8 years but the children mentioned in his will of 2 May 1689, probated 11 Mar. following were by the former. They were Dorothy, wife of a Root; Priscilla, wife of a Clason; George, b. about 1669; Daniel, about 1672, living 1709, yet not known to have issue; Mary, married after death of her father a Jackson; John; and Jonathan.
George Abbot, Andover
1643, had been some years at Roxbury, married 12 Dec. 1646, a maiden said, in reasonable tradition to have come in the same ship with him, Hannah 2, daughter of William Chandler of Roxbury had John, b. 2 Mar. 1648; Joseph, 11 Mar. 1649, died next year 24 June, the first died on record of Andover 3; Hannah, 9 June 1650; Joseph, again, 30 Mar. 1652, who was killed by the Indians 8 Apr. 1676, the earliest victim of the war in that town; George, 7 June 1655; William, 18 Nov. 1657; Sarah, 14 Nov. 1652; Benjamin, 20 Dec. 1661; Timothy, 17 Nov. 1663; Thomas, 6 May 1666; Edward, about young; Nathaniel, 4 July 1671; and Elizabeth 9 Feb. 1673. He died 24 Dec. 1661; and his widow married Rev. Francis Dane, as his third wife outlived him, and died 11 June 1711, aged 82. Hannah, married 20 Dec. 1676, John Chandler; Sarah, married 11 Oct. 1680, Ephraim Stevens; and Elizabeth married 24 Nov. 1692, Nathan Stevens. His son Benjamin was afflicted by Elizabeth Johnson, a witch, as she confessed in 1692; and she implicated goody Currier in the diabolic. work. Yet the nature or degree of the affliction is nowhere shown. Currier was executed on account of other charges. The confession of the nonsense, which probably was the cause of Johnson’s impunity is seen in 3 Mass. History Coll. I. 124. Of this first George of Andover, said to have come from Yorkshire descendants are very numerous of which forty-four with the family name, beside forty-nine others through female Abbots, had been graduated at some college in 1844. Seven son and three daughters married and resided at Andover while of 73 grandchildren five settled at Concord, N. H. four went to Connecticut and two lived at Billerica. Of seven farms, on which his son lived four were occupied by descendants in our day.

He died 22 Mar. 1689; and his widow m. 1 Aug. following Henry Ingalls, outlived him, and died 1728, aged 90. Sarah m. 19 Oct. 1682, John Faulkner; Mary m. 13 May 1687, Stephen Barker; Hannah m. 16 Apr. 1695, James Ingalls; and Lydia, m. 28 Nov. 1695, Henry Chandler.
George Abbot, Andover
Son of George the first of the same, m. 17 Apr. 1668, Dorcas, eldest died of Mark Graves of the same, had Sarah, b. 1679, died soon; Joseph, 7 Oct. 1680, died young; another child Nathan, or Martha, 12 Feb. 1683, died young; Hannah, 26 Feb. 1685; Daniel, 10 Jan. 1688; Elizabeth 25 July 1690; George, 22 Dec. 1632; Henry, 12 June 1696; and Isaac, 4 Apr. 1699.
George Abbot, Andover
Eldest son of George the second of the same, and grandson of George of Rowley, m. 1689, Elizabeth Ballard, had George, b. 17 July 1691; Uriah, 26 Nov. 1692; Jacob, 19 Mar. 1694; Elizabeth 6 Nov. 1695; Sarah; and Hannah. His wife died May 1706; and he had second wife Hannah Easty.
George Abbot, Norwalk
Son of George of the same, by wife Hannah, it is said, had George, Samuel, Ebenezer, Benjamin, Israel, Hannah, and Elizabeth Success did not attend the diligent inquiry of Hall in finding dates for the children or whether the father had not removed from Norwalk.

1668, removed early in the next year but no more is known.
John Abbot, Andover
Eldest son of George the first of the same, m. 17 Nov. 1673, Sarah, eldest died of Richard Barker of the same, had John, b. 2 Nov. 1674; Joseph, 29 Dec. 1676; Stephen, 16 Mar. 1678; Sarah, 7 Dec. 1680; Ephraim, 15 Aug. 1682; Joshua, 16 June 1685; Mary, 2 Jan. 1687; Ebenezer, 27 Sept. 1689; and Priscilla, 7 July 1691; was selectman, deacon and died 19 Mar. 1721. His widow died 10 Feb. 1729.
John Abbot
Aged 16, and Mary, 16, came in the Hopewell, Capt. Bundocke, from London, 1635; but whose children they were, is unknown and probably not of any residence in our country.
John Abbot, Saco
Admitted an inhabitant of that town 12 June 1680, and ensign then chosen town clerk before which time the plantation had been so much disturbed by Indian war, that Folsom, in his valuable History 177, says, the records are lost.

Son of George the second of Andover, by wife Jemima had Jemima, b. 10 Oct. 1699; John, 3 Oct. 1701; Sarah, 10 Sept. 1704; Mary; and Hannah; removed to Watertown, there was a millwright, and died 24 Mar. 1718. His widow m. John Beeks.

Son of the first Thomas of the same, m. Apr. 1710, Hannah Chubb, perhaps died of Pascoe of the same, had Hannah; Sarah, b. Mar. 1712, died young; Mary, 1716, died young; John, Feb. 1718; Sarah, 16 Aug. 1722; Mary, again, 23 Nov. 1727; and his wife died 3 June 1733. He m. 1734, second wife Hepzibah Frye.

Son of George of the same, m. 5 June 1696, Sarah, died of John Olmstead, had Jonathan, b. 6 Apr. 1697; Sarah, 16 June 1699; Eunice, 23 Jan. 1702; Mary, 8 July 1704; Deborah, 3 Dec. 1707; Keziah, 17 Apr. 1711; Lemuel, 21 Mar. 1714; Jane, 5 Oct. 1716; and Mindwell, 21 Dec. 1718.

Youngest son of George the first of the same, m. 22 Oct. 1695, Dorcas Hibbert, probably daughter of Robert of Beverly, had Nathaniel, b. 1696; Mary, 8 Feb. 1698; a son b. 20 June 1700, died same day; Joseph, 2 Feb. 1705; Tabitha, about 1707; Jeremiah, 4 Nov.1709; Joshua,1711; Sarah; Hannah; Elizabeth and Rebecca, 1717. His wife died 7 Feb. 1743, and he died 1 Dec. 1749.
Nathaniel Abbot, perhaps of Ashford
Son of the first Thomas of Andover, m. 1710 Mercy Hutchinson of Ashford, had Nathaniel, b. 1714; and no more is told of him.
Nehemiah Abbot, Ipswich
Son of George of Rowley, was brought by his father from England, freeman in Massachusetts in 1669, deacon at Topsfield in 1686, died Mar. 1707, leaving only son Nehemiah.
Nehemiah Abbot, Topsfield
Son of the preceding m. 21 Jan. 1630, Remember, daughter of John Fiske of Wenham, had John, b. 9 Apr. 1691; Nehemiah, 19 Oct. 1692; Sarah; Mary; and Mehitable, 17 Oct. 1700. His wife died 12 July 1703, and he died 1736.
Nehemiah Abbot, Andover
Son of George the second of the same, m. 1691 Abigail Lovejoy, probably youngest died of John the first of the same, had Nehemiah, b. 19 Jan. 1692; Abiel, 10 Aug. 1693; Zebadiah, 6 Apr. 1695; John, 31 Oct. 1697; Abigail, 30 Sept. 1699; Mary, 24 Mar. 1701; and Joseph, wh. alone of the seven died young.
Peter Abbot, Fairfield
Son of Robert, killed his wife Elizabeth daughter of John Evarts, and attempted to kill Hannah, his only child for which 16 Oct. 1667 he was executed though it may hardly be doubted that he was insane, as he had been several years before as at Branford, in 1658, whither he went to help his father and was taken the first day with insanity. 4

Son of Arthur of the same, by wife Mary had Arthur, b. 3 Feb. 1694; Frances, 18 May 1696; Susanna; and Mary, 26 July 1701. His widow died 11 Jan. 1730, but the date of his death is not seen.
Richard Abbot, Kittery
1663, was keeper of the prison in New Hampshire 1684, as in Farmer’s Ed. of Belknap I. 485, appears.
Robert Abbot, Watertown
Freeman 3 Sept. 1634,. when Col. Rec. gives the name Abbitt, was of Wethersfield 1640, and New Haven 1642, where John, his son b. many months before was bapt. 7 Oct. 1649; Abigail, b. 2 Oct. 1649, and Robert, brought from Branford, where the father lived, bapt. 1 June 1651; Joseph, b. 20 Apr. 1652; Benjamin, 10 Jan. 1654, died soon; Daniel, 12 Feb. 1655, and Mary, 13 May 1657; beside other children before 1649, as Peter, before mentioned Sarah, wh. m. Matthew Rowe; and Deborah. He died Sept. 1658; and his widow Mary m. 4 Nov. 1659, John Robins; and Deborah m. 1661, Nathan Andrews. His land was in that part, called East Haven; and about 1649 he removed to Branford. His estate was distributed 1660, in small portions to children: Peter, Deborah, John, Daniel, Abigail, and Mary. His son Robert had died 30 Sept. 1658, it is said; but Joseph was alive, and perhaps provided for otherwise, as by several years of living with his mother. Matthew Rowe had the part of his wife though this fact may not certainly show that his wife was dead. An Elizabeth Abbot who married at Guilford 3 Mar. 1654, Gabriel Harris of New London is, by the author of the History of that city, in her p. 86, thought to have been another of the daughters. But the suggestion is embarrassing with obstinate difficulty and contradiction whelm the tradition in self-destruction.

Youngest son of George the second of Andover, grandson of George of Rowley, by wife Joyce had Joyce, b. 18 Aug. 1706; Martha, 10 Mar. 1712; Samuel, 21 Aug. 1716; and George.
Thomas Abbot, Rowley
Presumed to be youngest son of George of the same, b. in England is said to have m. but died without issue 7 Sept. 1659.
Thomas Abbot, Andover
Whose father is not know may have come later from England than others of the name, or been born here, m. 15 Dec. 1664, Sarah Steward, whose father is not named, had Joseph, b. 16 Mar. 1666, died next year Thomas, 1668; Sarah, 8 Jan. 1671; Joseph, again, 16 Aug. 1674; Dorothy, 2 Jan. 1676, died at 2 years; Nathaniel, 9 Jan. 1678; John, Oct. 1681; Dorothy, again; Mary, 22 July 1686; and Ebenezer, 23 Nov. 1690. He was a captain and died 6 May 1695; and his widow died Feb. 1716. Sarah m. 26 Nov. 1691, Joseph Chandler; and Dorothy m. 1710, one with so strange a name, as Braviter Gray.

Son of George the first of the same, m. 7 Dec. 1697, Hannah Gray, probably not died of Robert of the same, had Hannah, b. 10 Sept. 1700; Edward, 9 June 1702; Deborah, 1 Dec. 1704; George, 7 Nov. 1706; Zebadiah, 25 Jan. 1709; Benjamin, and Catharine, twins, 31 Mar. 1711 ; Aaron, 8 Aug. 1714; and Isaac, 24 Feb. 1717; and died 28 Apr. 1728. His widow died 1763, aged 89.
Thomas Abbot, Andover
Son of Thomas the first of the same, m. Jan. 1707, Elizabeth French, had only Thomas, wh. died 9 Mar. 1729; and of the father no more is told.
Timothy Abbot, Andover
Son of George the first of the same, taken by the Indians when 12 years old, and held several months in 1676, m. 27 Dec. 1689, Hannah, daughter of Mark Graves of Andover, had Timothy, b. 1 July 1693; Hannah, 19 Oct. 1695; and Dorcas, 6 May 1698. His wife died 5 Nov. 1726, and he died 9 Sept. 1730.
Walter Abbot, Exeter
1640, a vintner, died Jan. 1667, leaving wife Sarah, who m. Henry Sherburne, and had children, Peter, William, Walter, John, Elizabeth and another died who married a Wills, and grandchildren: Thomas, Joseph, and Sarah Wills. Possibly John of Saco, the ensign 1680, and Thomas of Kittery, the ensign 1680, were son and grandson of this man.

Son of George the first of Andover, m. 19 June 1682, Elizabeth died of Nathaniel Geary of Roxbury, had Elizabeth b. 29 Apr. 1683; William, 17 Mar. 1685; George, 19 Mar. 1687, died at 2 years, Ezra, 7 July 1689; George, again, 22 Dec. 1691, died soon; Nathan, 10 Dec. 1692; James, 12 Feb. 1695; Paul, 28 Mar. 1697; Philip, 3 Apr. 1699; Hannah, a Apr. 1701; Caleb, 1704; and Zebadiah, 1706. His. wife died Dec. 1712, and he died 24 Oct. following.

- The Magistrate & deputies of Branford informed that Peter Abbott coming thither the last yeare to help his father to weed corne, was taken the same day with a lunacy, which occaisioned much charge & exercise to their towne, Wch they conceived should be borne by the publique, he being no settled inhabitant there, but had lived sometimes in one plantation & sometimes in another, and that if it should please God againe so to exercise him, they saw not how the people of [200] Branford (haveing been vnder the || afflicting hand of God) could be able to supply him wth such things as his condition would call for, to wch the court answered, that they saw not but yt Branford, to whom he did belong, must in justice beare it, but withall it was pmised that if God should so againe afflict them in Peter Abbot, they will have a brotherly respect to them &, if there be cause, help them in a way of mercy, as this court shall thinke meet.
