North Powder Pioner Woman Dies, Aged 72
Funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Nice to Be Held Monday; 4 Sons Survive
Mrs. Elizabeth Nice, for more than 47 years a resident of the North Powder community, died at her home there yesterday after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at St. Francis Cathedral here Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Elizabeth Simonis was born October 28, 1855 at Rosholt, Wisconsin. She came across the plains by wagon train in 1876 and has lived in eastern Oregon ever since. Her husband, John Nice, died three years ago.
Mrs. Nice is survived by four sons, Matts, John, J. A., and H. L. Nice, all of North Powder, 12 grandchildren, five brothers, James, Lewis, Matts and Jacob Simonis, all of North Powder, and John of Baker, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Dale, Fort Benning, Georgia; Mrs. Racy Nice, North Powder, and Mrs. Josie Harrison, North Powder.
The family requested that no flowers be sent.
