West Virginia African American Census Records

Census online research should begin with what is available online for free. If this proves fruitful then congratulations! If not, then I would suggest signing up for the online census images (links to the right) where you can access all the available online Florida census information directly from your computer at home. You should also check AccessGenealogy’s Census Records

  1. Hello,

I am looking for records for a slave named Ned who was owned by the Smith Family of Putnam county West Virginia and maybe before Putnam he might have been passed down from another smith family member that lived in Augusta county Virginia. I think it was my 4th or 5th great grandfather that owned him. His name was Daniel smith. I know I saw a will that listed Ned and his wife and maybe children down to the smith family, but now I can’t locate that will. If anyone can help me that would be much appreciated.
    Mrs Terri smith
