Pickup, Cleora Lester – Obituary

Lifelong Ellensburg resident, Cleora L. Pickup, 81, passed away Saturday, August 13, 1994 at Royal Vista Care Center. She was born on November 6, 1912 in St. Maries, Idaho to Edward V. and Ada C. (Rich) Cooke.

Cleora was married to Roland H. Pickup on November 5, 1934 in Yakima, WA [May 5, 1932]. He preceded her in death in 1973. After raising their three children, Cleora obtained her drivers license and attended CWSC studying in Home Economics. She was proved a livelihood by her joys in quilting and sewing. She owned and operated her own quilting shop located in the 1888 Building, contracted for Ed Wilson’s Cleaners doing alterations and worked with the residence at Royal Vista Care Center in quilt making. She also participated in local Ellensburg Fair each year winning numerous Blue ribbons for her skills in quilting, sewing and growing flowers.

She was a member of the Ellensburg Seventh Day Adventist Church, Home Bible Study Club, RSVP, Hospice, Quilters Club, Country Mother’s Club and the Supper Club. She also volunteered each year helping put on the Western Art Show.

She is survived by two sons, Roland (Ruth) Pickup, Spokane, WA and Leslie (DeFrancesca) Pickup, Seattle; one daughter, Susan (Robert) McCreary, Shelton; one sister, Nina Bauer, Kittitas; one brother, Rex Cooke, Klickitat; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 1994, at 1:00 PM in Steward & Williams Chapel. Viewing will be Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Steward & Williams Chapel. The family wishes that all memorial contributions be made out to the Royal Vista Residence Activity Fund in memory of Cleora L. Pickup, 1506 Radio Rd., Ellensburg, WA 98926.
