This volume is “Abstractions from Huron County Ohio, Will Book A.” These will abstractions cover the years from 1828 to 1852. They have been taken out of order as they appeared in the original volume and sorted by name. This abstraction was done by Henry Timman of Norwalk, Ohio, in 1960.
This small booklet contains all the known men and women who participated in World War 1 and claimed their home of record as Stephenson County, Illinois. By participation, this record does not limit this to soldiers, but also contains the records of those men and women who served the Red Cross, Y.M.C.A., and other non-fighting positions. John Tice, a German settler and uncle of the renowned Prof. Tice, arrived in Warren County around 1809, becoming the first inhabitant of Pinckney Bottom. He faced the 1824 flood with resilience, moving his family upstairs and preparing a makeshift canoe for escape. Despite alarming neighbors who checked on them, Tice’s home remained safe. His early years were marked by the threat of hostile Indians, and an encounter with a man crafting an ax helve led to a memorable scare. Tice’s children—John, Joseph, Mary, and Sally—played a significant role in community life, with Sally excelling in school sports.
