This book contains the history of the descendants of John Smith, born in Ireland in 1686, died in Uwchlan, Chester County, Pennsylvania, December 19, 1765; and his wife, Susanna, born in Ireland in 1691, died in Uwchlan, Chester County, Pennsylvania, December 24, 1767.
(III) Joshua, son of Corporal James Thompson, was born in Norridgewock, Maine, May 10, 1793. He rendered faithful military service in the war of 1812. He married Marcia Crane, a member of the celebrated Crane family of Connecticut, and a granddaughter of John Crane, one of the signers of the famous “fidelity oath” to the state of Connecticut. He was the father of nineteen children.
The Lincoln County New Mexico online archives contains pdf’s of all remaining copies of the El Farol Newspaper of Capitan NM, but doesn’t have an index to the newspaper. C. W. Smith Thompson was born in Beaver County, Pa., January 15, 1834. Removed to Ohio in 1847; thence to Henry County, Iowa, in 1853. Enlisted in April 1861 in Company F, First Iowa Volunteer Infantry, under the first call of the President. Enlisted again in the fall of 1861, in Company D, Fourteenth Iowa Volunteer Infantry, and held a commission as Lieutenant in said company. Was wounded in the head and side at Shiloh, and in the thigh at Pilot Knob, Mo. James H. Thompson, a pioneer of Oklahoma, is numbered among the successful agriculturists of Washington county, his home being on the Bartlesville-Nowata road. He was born at Lawrence, Kansas, October 20, 1867, and when but a year old he was brought to Indian Territory by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thompson, the mother passing away during his infancy. M. J. Thompson Postmaster, St. Edward, was born in Nelson, Portage Co., Ohio, August 27, 1845. He lived there until 1867, when he came to Nebraska, locating in the western part of Douglas County, where he resided four years, engaged in farming. He married at Fremont, October 16, 1869, Miss Lydia E. Collins, who was born at Camden, Maine. They have two children–George M. and Luella Blanche. This survey of Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Mississippi, was completed in 1956 by Mr. Gordon M. Wells and published by Joyce Bridges the same year. It contains the cemetery readings Mr. Wells was able to obtain at that date. It is highly likely that not all of the gravestones had survived up to that point, and it is even more likely that a large portion of interred individuals never had a gravestone.
Leonard Thompson, born in 1812, came to Wolcott from Tunbridge, Vt., about forty-five years ago, and located on road 22. In February, 1862, he enlisted in Co. E, 8th Regt. Vt. Vols., was taken prisoner, and died at New Orleans in June, 1863.

William Hartley Cary was a prominent and respected citizen and business man of the city of Brockton, where his death occurred Dec. 9, 1899. As a citizen he enjoyed the esteem of the entire community, in which industrial center he had for nearly a quarter of a century been an influential and successful factor in the development of its business interests. Mr. Cary was born Jan. 10, 1852, in Charleston, Maine, son of William Harrison and Abigail (Ingles) Cary. His parents were both natives of Maine, although his earlier paternal ancestors were among the early settlers of North Bridgewater (now Brockton). A record of that branch of the Cary family through which Mr. Cary descended, which has been traced in direct line back in England to the year 1170, follows.

Prior to the year 1800, Methodism had scarcely gained a foothold in Vermont. The first Methodist society in the State is said to have been formed at Vershire by Nicholas Suethen in 1796. Two years later, only one hundred church members were returned as residents in the Vershire Circuit, then including the whole of eastern Vermont. Zadock Thompson, in the first edition of his Gazetteer of Vermont, published in 1824, gives the number of preachers, traveling and local, at that time as about one hundred, and the number of societies much greater. Theodore Charles Todd8, (Ora B.7, Bela6, Caleb5, Gideon4, Gideon3, Michael2, Christopher1) born Sept. 10, 1845, in Stockton, N. Y. He was twice married, first, about 1868, Alice Jones, of Stockton, N. Y., second, Nov. 17, 1911, Mrs. Josephine Waterman Putnam, who was also of Stockton, N. Y., and where they now (1912) reside. In March 1884, he went to California to live accompanying his parents and lived some of the time in Los Angeles, and in Standish, Lassen County. About the middle of the seventeenth century four brothers of the Lewis family left Wales, viz.: Samuel, went to Portugal; nothing more is known of him; William, married a Miss McClelland, and died in Ireland, leaving only one son, Andrew; General Robert, died in Gloucester county, Va. ; and John, died in Hanover county, Va. It is Andrews descendants who are featured in the manuscript.
