Alexander Bisset Munro was born 25 Dec. 1793 at Inverness, Scotland to Donald and Janet (Bisset) Munro. Alexander left Scotland at the age of 14, and lived in Dimecrana in the West Indies for 18 years. He owned a plantation, raising cotton, coffee and other produce. He brought produce to Boston Massachusetts on the ship of Solomon Dockendorff. To be sure he got his money, Solomon asked his to come home with him, where he met Solomon’s sister, Jane Dockendorff. Alexander went back to the West Indies, sold out, and moved to Round Pond, Maine, and married Jane. They had 14 children: Janet, Alexander, Margaret, Nancy, Jane, Mary, Solomon, Donald, John, William, Bettie, Edmund, Joseph and Lydia.

Charles Gilman Sanders, an enterprising lumber manufacturer of Chichester, was born in this town, April 30, 1824, son of Elijah and Olive (Philbrick) Sanders. His grandfather, Robert Sanders, followed the sea from the age of seventeen until he was sixty years old. Robert was engaged in both the foreign and coast trade; and during the War of 1812 he served upon a privateering vessel, which was fitted out at Portsmouth, N.H., by Captain Chase. Biographical Sketch of Christopher Sanders

Christopher Sanders settled near Loutre Lick, in Montgomery County, at an early date. He was a great hunter, but somewhat indolent, and generally depended upon borrowing a gun to shoot his game with rather than perform the labor of carrying one. He raised four sons and two daughters Jack, James, Joseph, William, Nancy, and Rachel. William married Ivy Slavens, a daughter of Stewart Slavens, of Middletown.

They are the parents of Murrell, Charles, Haskell, and Ross Sanders. Ellen, daughter of Amos and Minerva (Foreman) Thornton was born February 14,1857. Married June 15, 1876 Charles Cochran, born in 1845. He died March 16, 1889 and she died February 16, 1899. They were the parents of Mrs. Dollie Saunders.

Mary A. Sanders, Choctaw

Mary A. Sanders and her family applied for enrollment as citizens of the Choctaw Nation in 1896, claiming descent from John Chronister, a Choctaw Indian. Their applications were denied by the Dawes Commission but later appealed to the U.S. court, which ruled in their favor in 1897. However, in 1902, the Citizenship Court vacated this decision, requiring proof that their ancestors had relocated to Indian Territory within a “reasonable time” after the 1830 treaty. Unable to meet this criterion, the applicants were denied citizenship in 1904. Their legal counsel later argued for their rightful enrollment based on prior recognition.
