William Henry Garlock, born August 13, 1842, in North Greece, New York, was the son of Elisha and Lucy Wilkinson Garlock. He received education at local schools and Falley Seminary in Fulton, where he later married Florence Adell Ingell. A Republican, Garlock taught school for seven winters before entering the men’s furnishing business in 1873 and establishing a laundry business in 1880. He served as president of The Garlock-Frazee Laundry Co., was a trustee of Dorcas Invalids Home, and was involved in Masonry. His leisure interest included travel.

Garlock, Frank Mrs. – Obituary

Mrs. Frank Garlock, approximately 50 years old, was shot and killed at her home in Auburn while sitting at the supper table. Her husband, Frank Garlock, discovered her body upon returning from Baker. A 14-year-old boy named Clarence Woolery, who had lived with the Garlocks for five years, is missing along with a .44 caliber rifle, which matches the murder weapon. Despite reports of quarrels between them, Frank Garlock stated his wife was always kind to Woolery. Authorities are searching for the boy.

Peter Garlock, the first documented member of his family, descended from Johann Christopher Gerlach, an immigrant from the Palatinate in Germany, born by 1690. In 1710-1711, he led several villages settled by fellow immigrants near the Hudson River. After facing hardships, they relocated to Schoharie in 1713, where they received help from local Indians and thrived. Elias Garlock, Peter’s descendant, later moved to the Mohawk Valley, and several family members achieved prominence in the Revolutionary War and medicine. Peter had at least one child, Abram.
