John Gilbert “Jack” Ferguson (1916-2008) of Halfway, Oregon, passed away on June 12, 2008, at age 92. Born on March 11, 1916, in Akeley, Minnesota, to Benjamin Franklin and Minnie Belle Jenkins Ferguson, Jack moved to Renton, California, during the Great Depression. He graduated from Renton High School in 1936 and married Eleanor Owen on February 8, 1941. Jack served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, flying 19 missions over Japan. After the war, he operated Pine Mercantile Inc. in Halfway until retirement. Jack is survived by his wife, three children, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Military honors were held on June 20, 2008, at Pine Haven Cemetery.

Nursed at Pontanezen Barracks, Camp Hospital No. 33, Sept. 18th to Oct. 3, 1918, and was then transferred to Kerhuon Hospital, Oct. 3, 1918 to May 23, 1919. Returned to USA May 31, 1919, and was mustered out of the service at New York City, June 22, 1919.
James Harvey Ferguson, 93, member of a pioneer Kittitas Valley family, died Saturday, October 18, 1969 in a Seattle nursing home. He was the son of James Ferguson and Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John McEwen. The Ferguson and McEwen families came to the Kittitas Valley in 1871 over the Snoqualmie Pass from the Puget Sound Country. The McEwens bought land in what is now known as the Denmark District. This survey of Wintergreen Cemetery, Port Gibson, Mississippi, was completed in 1956 by Mr. Gordon M. Wells and published by Joyce Bridges the same year. It contains the cemetery readings Mr. Wells was able to obtain at that date. It is highly likely that not all of the gravestones had survived up to that point, and it is even more likely that a large portion of interred individuals never had a gravestone.

This volume, “Marriages of Charlotte County, Virginia, 1784-1815,” compiles the marriage bonds and minister’s returns from Charlotte County during the specified period. The original work was painstakingly copied by Catherine Lindsay Knorr and published in 1951. The book spans 119 pages and includes a wealth of historical data on marriages that took place in this Virginia county. This publication presents several challenges for readers. Some pages are slightly tattered and torn, and the manuscript features irregular pagination. Additionally, there are tight or nonexistent margins, particularly at the bottom of the pages, and one page is typed on different paper than the rest.
