Biography of Tobias Engle
Tobias Engle, born May 9, 1829, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, was an early settler in Freeport, Illinois. He worked on his father’s farm before moving to Illinois in 1851 and later returning to Pennsylvania. Engle entered the hardware business before purchasing a 400-acre farm in Stephenson County. Married to Mary A. Myers, they had eleven children. Engle was involved in local education and politics, shifting from Republican to Prohibitionist views. He is affiliated with the Embury M.E. Church of Freeport.
Engle Jimmie E. – Obituary
La Grande, Oregon Jimmie E. Engle, 88, of Eugene and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 13. The family will have a private memorial service in Eugene. Mr. Engle was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Krupp, Wash., and grew up in eastern Washington. In 1941 he married Sheila Thompson in Portland. He served in the Army overseas during World War II, then attended pharmacy school at Oregon State University. He was a pharmacist for 30 years and was the manager of the La Grande PayLess from 1969 to 1984. After retiring in 1985, he and his wife moved to Eugene. … Read more

Edmund Ingalls, son of Robert, was born about 1598 in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, England. He immigrated in 1628 to Salem, Massachusetts and with his brother, Francis, founded Lynn, Massachusetts in 1629. He married Ann, fathered nine children, and died in 1648.
