The original work was painstakingly copied by Catherine Lindsay Knorr and published in 1951. The book spans 119 pages and includes a wealth of historical data on marriages that took place in this Virginia county. This publication presents several challenges for readers. Some pages are slightly tattered and torn, and the manuscript features irregular pagination. Additionally, there are tight or nonexistent margins, particularly at the bottom of the pages, and one page is typed on different paper than the rest.

Biographical Sketch of Dr. William Ansyl Brooke

Dr. William Ansyl Brooke, born 52 years ago near Placerville, studied medicine at Cooper Medical College in San Francisco. He began his career in Sacramento before relocating to Alameda and eventually settling in Halfmoon Bay eleven years ago. A respected member of the San Mateo Medical Society, he was appointed Coroner and Public Administrator in 1915. His professional skill and personal charm have endeared him to the community, and he is also affiliated with several fraternal organizations, including the Masons and Eagles.

Biography of George S. Brooke

George S. Brooke, born on February 12, 1855, in Dubuque, Iowa, is the cashier, director, and a major shareholder of the First National Bank of Sprague. He descends from notable lineages in Maryland and Virginia. After graduating from Griswold College in 1872, he embarked on a westward journey, eventually working in banking in Oregon. In 1882, he co-founded a banking firm in Sprague and became its first mayor upon incorporation in 1883. Brooke is also involved in local education and trade organizations and has a family of two children.
