Nellie Sumpter of North Portland died Tuesday in a Portland hospital of complications arising from hypoxemia. She was 79. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of St. John’s Funeral Home.
She was born July 22, 1911, in Baker. Her maiden name was Long. She married Claude Sumpter on Sept. 28, 1930, in Albany. Mrs. Sumpter was a homemaker. She and her husband lived in Portland for about 20 years before moving to the Oregon coast about 1970. She moved back to Portland last year.
Survivors besides her husband include her son, John of Portland; sister, Zella of Salem; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Disposition was by cremation.
