Joel Haden Chastain, 76, a life-long resident of Oregon, died at his home in Maupin, Monday night [July 4, 1949]. He was born Jan. 11, 1873, at Pine Grove.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Maupin with the Rev. H. J. Hardwick officiating. Spencer & Libby, of The Dalles, will be in charge.
Surviving are his wife, Polly, and a son, Cecil, both of Maupin, and two grandchildren, Glenn E. Chastain and Betty Jo Paulsen. A brother, T. M. B. Chastain of San Diego, Cal., and a sister, Mrs. Ina M. Literal, of Hillsboro, also survive. Burial will be at the Kelly Cemetery, Maupin.
