Polly Catherine Chastain, a resident of the Maupin area for 83 years, died Friday [November 5, 1971] in a local hospital. She was 93. Mrs. Chastain came to Maupin when she was 10 years of age. She was born June 5, 1878, at Scio, Ore. Mrs. Chastain was a member of the Evangelical United Church of North America, the Rebekah Lodge, the Farm Bureau and the Old Wasco County Pioneer Association. Joel Haden Chastain, 76, a life-long resident of Oregon, died at his home in Maupin, Monday night [July 4, 1949]. He was born Jan. 11, 1873, at Pine Grove. Joel O. Chastain, 67, a life-long resident of Tygh Valley where he was a dairyman and farmer, died Wednesday [May 17, 1961] in Portland after a long illness. Mr. Chastain was a member of the Tygh Valley Methodist Church and the Old Wasco County Pioneer Association. Marie V. Chastain, 88, Ontario, died Jan. 16, 1991. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ontario Lienkamper Chapel. The Rev. Jack Becker will officiate.
