Summerville, Union County, Oregon Harry Paul Billerbeck, 60, Summerville, died Tuesday in St. Helens of a heart attack. He was in St. Helens as a superintendent of a job in progress for A. J. Zinda Construction Co. Born in Rockford, Wash., he moved with his family to Wallowa County at the age of six. He attended schools until he began farming in 1929. After marriage to the former Bernice Slack of Enterprise in 1935, he moved to Union County to farm, later purchasing a farm here. Sumpter, Oregon Dan Warnock Sr., 96, a longtime Sumpter Valley rancher, died Aug. 15, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Care Center. His graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Sumpter Cemetery. There will be a memorial service afterward at 4 p.m. at the McEwen Community Church. Family and friends are invited to a beef barbeque afterward at the church. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon Willard, the 18 year old son of Thos. Akin of Enterprise, was drowned at Ray’s ferry while returning home from helping to cross cattle over the Grande Ronde river. Sam McAllister, who would have forded the river with him had he not stopped to talk with a man, a few minutes later saw the horse riderless in the stream and the boy in the river about 200 yards below. Ruth Hammond departed this life while at the hospital at Lewiston, Idaho, January 30th, 1920, aged 18 years, 11 months and 2 days. Ruth was the daughter of Tim Gordon (deceased) and Eliza (Gordon) Backelman, a resident of Bartlett, where the daughter was born. She was married to T.B. Lostine resident, Rena Bork, died Oct 4, 1987 at her home. She was 95. Rena was born at Anatone, Wash., on Sept. 24, 1892, the daughter of David Jacob and Mary Melvina Cross Miller. She lived most of her girlhood on the Grande Ronde River, just a short distance from the Oasis. Her parents farmed a ranch on Buford Ridge. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon The body of Miss Eva Rumble, who died on March 19 in Santa Barbara, California, was brought back to Wallowa county on Saturday. Burial was in Prairie Creek Cemetery on Sunday. Miss Rumble was postmistress at Joseph for many years. Her health failing, she went with her parents in 1910 to southern California. Wallowa, Oregon Glenn Williams Word was received last week that Glenn Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theo Williams, former residents of Wallowa, had been killed in a railroad accident at Selby, Cal.
