Delmar A. Hansell, 85, of La Grande, and a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 1, 2002, at his home. A celebration of his life took place Aug. 2 at Loveland Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Gary Hood of ioneer Park Church officiating. Mr. Hansell was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Corvallis to William Henry and Lydia L. Bullis Hansell. He attended Corvallis and Newport high schools. He married Ernestine (Teen) Gardener on Nov. 12, 1947, in Caldwell, Idaho. They lived in Corvallis, then moved to Baker in 1950 and to La Grande in 1956, where Mr. Hansell was a custodian … Read more
Effie Slack Dies At Summerville Mrs. Effie Slack, 1306 Fourth street, died Sunday morning in her son’s home in Summerville. She was 69 years old. She had been ill for a long time. Mrs. Slack had lived in Union county all of her life. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Rebecca lodge. Funeral services will be held for her at the Summerville chapel on next Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Robinson will officiate. La Grande, Union County, Oregon Heart Attack Takes Larry Bay Lawrence G. “Larry” Bay passed away suddenly Tuesday evening February 25, with a heart attack at Walnut Creek California. Bay was born June 6, 1911 at La Grande, son of Harve and Lulu Bay. He was reared in La Grande, graduating from high school there, and attended the University of Oregon. On October 12, 1935 he was married at Seattle to Bernice Wilson who survives him. During World War II he was with the U.S. Engineers in Alaska. Bruce Morehead, of 2911 N. Ash, La Grande, died Wednesday, August 29, 1984 at the Grande Ronde Hospital at the age of 92. Mr. Morehead was born on June 4, 1892, the son of Ebe and Emma (Winter) Morehead at Albion, Nebraska and worked for the White Pine Lumber Company. In 1928 he was hired by Mt. Emily Lumber Company as logging superintendent, a position he kept until he became a forester for Boise Cascade. He served as President for the International Logging Conference Congress.
