Pioneer Matron Of Grande Ronde Valley Succumbs Mrs. Mary E. Goodnough, 84 died Saturday evening in the Island City home of her daughter, Mrs. James Y. Walnum. Mrs. Goodnough was born in Richardson County, Nebraska, Dec 21, 1860, and crossed the plains in 1862 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bay. They left the famous “Iowa” train, captained by Micaja Baker, at Auburn, but the next spring came on to La Grande. In 1882, Mary Bay married Charles D. La Grande, Oregon Dorothy F. Erskine, 85, a La Grande resident, died Sept. 23, 2002, at Wildflower Lodge in La Grande. A family gathering to honor her will be scheduled later. Disposition was by cremation. Mrs. Erskine was born at Elkton on Sept. 6, 1917, to Walter and Ellene Rydall. She graduated high school in Salem. She married Reginald Erskine in 1936 and over the years they moved to several Oregon towns. Mrs. Erskine was a CPA and a municipal auditor in Springfield for several years. La Grande, Oregon Robert Lee Campbell, 56, died unexpectedly of natural causes April 18 at his home in La Grande. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Known as Bob, he was born Dec. 17, 1950, to Charles L. and Tressa June (Needham) Campbell in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School and lived his entire life in La Grande. There will be a celebration of her life at 6 p.m. Thursday at Richland Elementary School. Hilary was born on Nov. 22, 1983, with her twin sister, Gabrielle, at La Grande, to Anthony and Jan Bonn. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon at West Lawn Funeral Home. Mrs. Luhrs was born March 1, 1920 in North Powder to Dick and Enolia (Gorham) Brothers.
