Sutton, Kathleen Elizabeth Ann “Kate” Winn Mrs. – Obituary

Kathleen “Kate” Elizabeth Ann Winn Sutton, 90, of La Grande passed away at a local care facility on June 22, 2005. Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Celebration of Life Services were held on Monday, June 27, 10 a.m. at The Elgin United Methodist Church.
Viewing was held on Sunday, June 26 from 1-4 p.m. at Loveland Funeral Chapel 1508 4th Street, La Grande.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1914, in Milton-Freewater, Ore., to Henry and Ethel Dougherty Winn. She graduated from Maclaughlin High School in Milton-Freewater. She married Harold L Sutton on Dec. 2, 1932, in College Place, Wash. They moved to Elgin in 1935.

Kathleen went to work for Pondosa Pine lumber Co. during World War II from 1942 -1948. She was one of the first women to work there at that time.

She loved life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, with her family. At home, she was an energetic homemaker who had a gift for sewing, which she loved very much! She enjoyed traveling a great deal with her husband Harold and belonged to the Elgin Good Sam R.V. Club. Kathleen and Harold also maintained a 2nd home in Sumpter, Ore., where they would live part of the year.

Kathleen’s love for Christianity was her shinning glory and has helped her through many hard times. She attended the Elgin United Methodist Church and had many loving friends in her life.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Jean Beickel of La Grande and Cynthia Kaye Gibson of Portland; four foster children, Shirley Taylor, Dennis and Bob, and Linda Swalberg; four foster grandchildren; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters.
