Cash, Mary Rhodig – Obituary

La Grande, Oregon

Mary Rhodig Cash, 97, of La Grande died Nov. 16 in La Grande. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Committal and burial will follow at the Island City Cemetery.

Mrs. Cash was born June 29, 1909, to James Edward and Elizabeth Campbell Taylor in Almena, Kan. She married Russel L. Rhodig in April 1932, and the couple had four children, Twilla, Russel, Charles and Netha. Mr. Rhodig preceded her in death.

In 1982 she married James D. Cash of La Grande. Mr. Cash died in 1986. Mary enjoyed the love and affection of her stepchildren, Bob, Richard and Phyllis.

She was a member of the Church of God for many years. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and Eastern Star and worked in the bakery at Albertson’s for 12 years. She loved her home and family, living in the same house for 51 years. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and reading and studying the Bible.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Twilla and Bill Carson of Perry, Russ and Phyllis Rhodig of New Plymouth, Idaho, Chuck and Dolores Rhodig of Oregon City and Netha and Don Lester of Canby; stepchildren, Bob Cash of La Grande, Richard Cash of Walla Walla and Phyllis and Bill Wells of Newport; sisters, Irene Williams of La Grande, Della McClure and Dorothy Lewis; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands; siblings, Edward Taylor, Leo Taylor, Bernice White, Winifred Preston, Inez Phillipe and Betty Taylor; and a grandson, Rick Carson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grande Ronde Hospital Hospice in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande 97850.
