Robert Richard “Dick” Chandler died at Wallowa Valley Care Center on Jan. 29, 2006. He was 77.

Mr. Chandler was born on June 29,1928 in Denver, Colo., to Oscar B. Chandler and Gladys G. Ballantyne Chandler. Shortly after his birth he moved to Joseph with his parents and sister Frances.

He spent most of his working years in Wallowa County in logging, working for various ranchers and farmers, and working in scrap metal until ill health forced his retirement.

Mr. Chandler married Betty Tenney in Clarkston, Wash., in 1952. They had five children. He served in the U.S. Army for two years from 1954-1956, serving at Fort Lawton as a cook. After his service years he and his wife were divorced. He later married Hallie McCarty. They lived in Lostine until her death and his move to the Wallowa County Nursing Home in January 2006.

Mr. Chandler had a wonderful singing voice. In his younger years he often entertained his friends with his singing. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing with friends and with his brother Harley.

Mr. Chandler is survived by his children, Tim and Vickie Chandler, Joe and Kathy Chandler, Tom and Andrea Chandler, Laurie Chandler, grandchildren, Jacob, Barbara, Tamara, Nathan, Tom and Braydon, great grandchild Amelia, brother Harley and Shirley Chandler of Milton-Freewater, sister Frances Wingfield of Enterprise, sister Myrtle and Arlen DeLyria of Wallowa, sister Elizabeth and Stan McCune of Ellensburg, Wash., and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his wives, Hallie and Betty, sister Lucinda and brother Harry, who died as infants, and his sisters Alice Key, Florence French and Mary Duvall.

Funeral services will be held at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise on Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. Private interment will be at the Joseph Cemetery.

He enjoyed singing, fishing and being with his brother.

Survivors include children and their spouses, Tim and Vickie Chandler, Jacob Chandler, Barbara and Dylan Kang, Joe and Kathy Chandler, Tom and Andrea Chandler, Tom Chandler and Laurie Chandler; several grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Harley and Shirley Chandler of Milton-Freewater; three sisters and their husbands, Frances Wingfield of Enterprise, Myrtle and Arlen DeLyria of Wallowa, and Elizabeth and Stan McCune of Ellensburg, Wash.; and other relatives. Siblings, Lucinda and Harry, who died as infants, and Alice Key, Florence French and Mary Duvall, all died earlier.

Memorials may be made to any charity in care of Bollman Funeral Home.
