William Millord “Squeek” Marcum, 65, of Sand Hollow, Idaho, and formerly of La Grande, died Sept. 26 at the VA Hospital in Boise. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Private interment will be at the Hillcrest East Cemetery.
Mr. Marcum was born April 16, 1941, the son of William H. and Evelyn (Sanderson) Marcum in Weiser, Idaho. He was educated in La Grande and in his later years was raised by his mother and step-father, Howard Ramsey.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Army and he served in Alaska working with heavy equipment and tanks. Following his honorable discharge he worked for the Los Angeles Police Department for seven years as a motorcycle patrolman.
He then worked as a pilot for various commercial and cargo airlines for 20 years. For the past 10 years he worked as a long haul driver for various companies, most recently England and Jim Palmer.
He enjoyed reading and recreation travel on his motorcycle. He held his family close to his heart but he really loved being on the road or in the air.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Michael Marcum of Portland and Maureen and Mark McLeod of Cooksville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Virginia Marcum of Portland; an aunt, Wanda Pointer of Island City; an uncle, Billy Sanderson of Elgin; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Dean McLeod, aunt Dorothy Craig and uncles Donald and Kenneth Sanderson.
